NJ PBSIS Announces Enrollment Information Sessions for the next Training and Coaching Cohort to Implement Tiered Interventions for Conduct, Behavior, and Social and Emotional Wellness.

NJ PBSIS is launching the enrollment process for the next training and coaching cohort.  To learn more about the design of tiered interventions for conduct, behavior, social, and emotional wellness, the multi-year blended professional development model, and how to apply, register for one of the available information sessions occurring on December 1 and December 3 via Zoom.

To be eligible to apply, Principals of public schools and public Charter schools interested in enrolling their school in the NJ PBSIS network must attend one of the enrollment information sessions.  All other personnel are welcome to attend. Applications will be available following the information session to Principals who attend one of the information sessions.  Applications are due January 15, 2027. 

Specific topics covered during the information session will include:

• an overview of tiered interventions for conduct, behavior and social and emotional wellness;
• a description of the blended professional development model;
• priority commitments a principal makes when enrolling their school in the NJ PBSIS network; and
• a review of the application materials and process.

There is no cost to the school or district to enroll in an NJ PBSIS training cohort or to receive the multi-year professional development.  However, enrollment is dependent on the successful completion of a competitive scored application process.

Getting Started with Multi-Tier System of Support for Social, Emotional, and Behavioral Health

Session Level: Informational and Readiness

Description: This session will provide attendees with foundation knowledge about how the multi-tier system of support framework (MTSS; Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 interventions) is applied to student social, emotional, and behavioral health (SEB).  Attendees will learn about the anchor activities for each tier and view examples of implementation. Attendees will also learn about upcoming opportunities for additional no cost training for school teams. At the end of this session, attendees will be able to:

• Give examples of anchor activities that occur at each tier
• Describe the MTSS intervention workflow
• Given examples of considerations for planning MTSS for SEB
• Access resources for assessing existing implementation and determining readiness.

Tier 1 Prevention: Using School Level Data to Chart a Course

Session Level: Skill Building for Implementation

Description: This session will discuss the different school-level data and assessment options to pinpoint opportunities to strengthen Tier 1 universal prevention for school culture and climate and behavioral health.  Whether improving behavior in the cafeteria, boosting school morale, or addressing SEL skill needs, data helps us to make precise decisions about intervention needs.  This session will illustrate using different types of data (e.g., discipline referrals, feedback loops, climate surveys, and MTSS tools) to focus intervention planning.  Second, the session will model an action planning process to build Tier 1 interventions.  Attendees will have access to free resources to support using session information in their school setting. At the end of this session, attendees will:

• Give examples of data that support Tier 1 decision making
• Match data and assessment options with intervention needs
• Distinguish between the systems and practices features of an action plan
• Locate resources to support school and district application

Audience: Everyone is welcome to attend and learn.  The session content is tailored for building and central office level decision-makers and personnel serving on school or district tier 1 prevention teams for culture and climate or social, emotional, and behavior health.

Data Makes the Difference: Building a Progress Monitoring System that Guides Decisions

Session Level: Skill Building for Implementation

Description: You've built the plan.  Implemented the strategies.  But how do you know if it is working or when to make a change?  This session will illustrate how to use progress monitoring within Tier 2, I & RS, and Tier 3 (individual student) level plans delivering social, emotional, and behavioral support strategies.  At the end of this session, attendees will:

• Select from 5 types of data recording metrics based on student improvement goals
• Name 3 considerations for planning progress monitoring
• Given examples of decision rules for intervention decisions
• Give examples of techniques to set and use graphs in student data for decision making
• Give examples of considerations to planning intervention fading and exit

Audience: Everyone is welcome to attend and learn.   Session content assumes some pre-existing knowledge of progress monitoring and data collection.  Session content is tailored toward personnel responsible for developing and implementing student behavior-support plans or supervising the implementation of plans.
